The expansion was under way before Clinton showed up and the decline was under way well before he left.


You are right on part of your call......the date of the start of the economic expansion has been pushed back from 1992 to March 1991. However, you can see in the link below it was a tough call because several important indicators like employment did not trough til 1992. However March, 1991 now is the official start date of the expansion because the averages of a number of monthly indicators reached a trough in March.

As for its conclusion, the date is March, 2001, two months after GW was inaugurated.

For my vote I'll take the Regan years. He and Volker did the tough things that had to be done to convert the malaise of the 70s into the successes of the 80s and 90s.

And now, it looks like the Fed is going to get going and start the rate cuts I've been calling for since April -- most likely at their next meeting. Remind me to buy back those Qs...
