I thought to myself that they had an inner spirit of reckless idiots.

Interesting viewpoint.

I thought that they had fitted the available technology ingeniously and perfectly to the circumstances.

They clearly took risks and led adventurous and interesting lives. Entrepreneurs, in a way.

I know many people like them--none are bound by normal strictures. I admire their inner spirits.

I am missing the Iraq connection. Please elaborate.
