But what has happened is exactly the opposite --- the US is the biggest debtor nation in the world. The government owes, the people owe and the nation owes. In fact, the numbers are so big that one has lost count of how many zeros there are.

Furthermore, in terms of the present arrangement, can one reasonably expect that the US consumer will continue, for all time, to be the "purchaser of last resort" for the production of the whole world?
