HP grows Australian market share post-merger

Aug 14, 2002 (ZDNet.com.au - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Hewlett Packard (HP) is likely
to increase its market share of the Australian PC sector. Analyst group IDC said
that the post-merger HP controlled 22.6 per cent of the Australian PC market in
the second quarter of 2002. Before the merger, in the first quarter of 2002,
Compaq had a 12.6 per cent share, while HP controlled 7.7 per cent of the PC
market. IDC analyst Darian Bird said that corporate customers waited till the
merger was finalised to make new purchases from HP. Neither Dell nor IBM were
able to benefit from HP having been distracted by the merger process. Their
market share increased only marginally.
