All that security is so nobody breaks into the depository and finds out there is no gold at all inside. (Fort Knox Security.) People, mostly disgruntled confederate soldiers, the ancestors of disgruntled postal workers --(note to self: capitalize Confederate when in Alabama).. used to steal gold -- but nobody bothers anymore. Really, they could stack the stuff outside and have it watched by a bunch of kids and Chua-hua-huas. The only precaution they would have to make is to make the bricks 600 pounds in weight, have rounded smooth sides that slope away at about 15 degrees, and stack them on a perfectly smooth hard steel floor. The CDN mint make their bricks of gold 400 pounds avoirdupois, and tells people if you can pick one up, you can take it home. Really. Nobody has been able to get a grip on one, even with devices.
