Far from causing the bubble, Al warned about it in 1996 and when it became clear to him that the mindless zombies just had to be stopped, he did the job beautifully. A rapid series of discount rate increases in 1999 let the air out without causing undue harm to the real economy and sent the message to the mindless zombies that they were not, in fact, financial geniuses and maybe they should think about doing something productive. Uncle Al followed masterfully with an unprecedented series of discount rate cuts that returned monetary policy to mildly stimulative without sending the mindless zombies back to their day-trading desks. Even now, Uncle Al is our only defense against the Aztec deflationary collapse. Our hero Uncle Al stands tall on the economic rampart, pouring monetary fire onto the heads of the massing deflationary enemy, printing rolls glowing cherry red with the unprecedented number of sheets expended. He is magnificent!
