we haven't done a helluva lot to improve the human condition Do you mean "human condition" or "human nature"? I don't think we can ever eliminate the all-too-human impulse to kill each other off. All we can do is acknowledge its existence, then work to manage and contain it. I think the human condition in general over the centuries has vastly improved, and the average citizen is healthier and has more opportunities to live better than ever before - and I don't mean just in the U.S.
