This is exactly why Bush is attempting or has already, to get Jordan on their side. Jordan's King is a direct descendant of Mohammed and would be very acceptable to muslims around the world. They will make out Saddam to be a low caste socialist Baathist bully and inherently evil and not following the path of true Islam.

Yep, I completely agree. I think you and I combined to misunderstand one another.

That column is, of course, Friedman's favorite kick, globalization as against the village culture. He's too cheery by a half in these columns and in his book, but the structural argument makes a great deal of sense. He just needs to factor the doom and gloom in a bit more. (Now why won't the Times let me write his columns??)
