Thanks for the detailed response, CB. As far my mistake being a mistake of the left, however, I doubt it. I'm hardly a representative leftie.

I was simply trying to get balance in a sentence, realized I didn't know what I was talking about and yelled help. I actually never thought much one way or the other about Hitler's justifications. Just found myself doing so as I crafted that response to Bill.

Thanks again for the help.

Hi CB....Just a note to say again how much I enjoy your brain!!! Do you teach? Or just teach us on SI? Really would like to see you interact in court someday, and really wouldn't like to be your opposing counsel.

You have opened my eyes to so much....and here I thought they were already open....<g> Your post to John this AM was a perfect example.

#37799

I have not thought that fascism is like socialism or communism....I think they are instead of 180 degrees apart, they are rather 359 degrees apart....they are so close in so many ways, and yet different. Both extremes are quite scary to me.

John says he isn't a "representive leftist".....wonder where he actually considers he is?

Hope its a nice day for you back there, but looks like it continues to be too hot. Even here in Seattle, it was too hot yesterday.....in the low 90's even if it wasn't as muggy, and there was a slight breeze, is too hot ...

You just expressed, in a nutshell, the problem that the Left has in understanding fascism. There is no overarching metaphysical theory of fascism,

Excellent point CB!! Fascism, IMO, is generally just a "catch-all" title for totalitarian regimes that don't neatly fit into other definitiona. They are not particularly based upon a specific ideology, but rather incorporate aspects of socialism and capitalism, where their leaders see fit, and it doesn't undermine their authority. And they centralize cultural control over its citizenry. Regimes such as Mussolini, Saddam, and I opine, increasingly prevalent in China, where Maoism is giving way to Capitalism, without requisite political pluralism.

Btw, I agree with KLP about your talents....
