GMST--Gemstar-TV Guide delays results, reviews accounting

PASADENA, Calif., Aug 14 (Reuters) - Gemstar-TV Guide International Inc. said on Wednesday that it will delay its second quarter results and it is reviewing how the company recognizes revenue.

The company is evaluating the impact of the International Trade Commission ruling in its dispute regarding set-top boxes imported by EchoStar Communications Corp. (NasdaqNM:DISH - News) and the recording of a reserve for a receivable from Scientific-Atlanta Inc. (NYSE:SFA - News).

The company also is restating its 2001 financial results to reverse the recognition of $20 million in revenue from its TV Guide subsidiary. Gemstar's audit committee is reviewing the company's revenue recognition practices for the allocation of revenue between the company's interactive division and its media and services sector, the company said.

Also, Chief Executive Henry Yuen, Chief Financial Officer Elsie Leung and News Corp Ltd (Australia:NCP.AX - News), a 42 percent owner of Gemstar, have proposed a restructuring of Gemstar's management to resolve conflicts. A special committee of directors is reviewing the proposal, Gemstar said.
