Sprint probably will have GPS services next year and you would need a software upgrade, unless they already have the hooks for a future J2ME application in the current phones. GPS is only for E911 for now. Did any on play any of the Java games? I heard they are not good, or Java is not a good platform. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Here's something that both PCS and VZ could launch to differentiate their service from others: SK Telecom Launches NATE GPS Service Jul. 29. 2002 - GPS-based wireless Internet service is started for the first time in Korea. - This service provides geographical maps, road guides, and information on regions, using GPS-mounted terminals. This next generation Location-Based Service (LBS) starts by using the Global Positioning System (GPS). This service provides accurate location information within a maximum of 10 meters. SK Telecom (www.sktelecom.com) announced the launch of LBS-based "NATE GPS" starting on the 30th of July 2002. This service allows users to determine their exact location by providing a geographical map, road guide, and information on regions using GPS-mounted terminals. Unlike the conventional Location Information Service that allows users to find out their location within the scope of each base station, the NATE GPS enables users to accurately determine their location any place they are, by using GPS. In addition, this service provides customized wireless Internet content in accordance with the users' location. By using the NATE GPS, users can make an inquiry about their location indicated on the map that is shown on their cellular screen, or transmit their present location to another party through their cellular phone. Furthermore, they can receive "MY NAVI" service, that displays the exact route from their present location to their destination . The NATE GPS offers users "Right Here Service" that shows OK Cashbag member stores, available coupons, location of banks, hospitals, and restaurants. This service also provides "Buddy Finder Service" that informs you of the other party's location, as well as the distance between the user and the other party. The Buddy Finder Service is an upgrade from the conventional "Mate Search Service". Starting on the 1st of August 2002, a "Bus Informant Service", that informs exact distance between the present location of GPS-mounted local bus and the nearest bus station, will be launched through wireless Internet service-enabled terminals. Moreover, a "Mobile Security Service" that allows users to inform authorities of an emergency situation by pressing a single particular button of their cellular phone, will be launched beginning in October 2002. The NATE GPS does not require additional subscription procedures. All users who have GPS-mounted terminals (Model Name: SCH X-650), can use this service. Information use rate is free of charge before September 2002 when commercial service will start. Users can not receive the signal from the satellite's GPS indoors. The NATE GPS is automatically converted to a base station-based location information service which might not provide accurate location information service. Therefore, users should move to window when they use the NATE GPS indoors. "The NATE GPS is a next generation Location-Based Service (LBS) that uses 24 satellites.
