Hey, Jay, there really are productivity gains. Companies have transient monopolies, which are worth what the market will bear. If they can cut their input costs, such as by hiring one internerd with an It computer network, instead of a million clerks, then the savings drop straight to the bottom line. They don't cut their prices to their customers just because their input costs drop. That means big productivity improvements and more profits because all businesses have transient monopolies to a greater [like MSFT] or lesser [like a faddish new software game] extent. Productivity improvements are not all competed away, though of course they are to a greater or lesser extent, depending on the strength of the monopoly. There is also something to be said for the Clinton feel good factor. People might not like it, but there's some correlation with an alpha male getting the girls and economic well-being. Bush isn't such a turn-on as Clinton [though Republicans might not like that idea]. The electorate voted for him because they knew he'd make them feel good and that makes things good. If they put Bush and Clinton up against each other tomorrow, guess who'd win!! Mqurice
