Am I misreading the chart on the first link? It looks like the supercycle began to turn down about 1983, then back up in about 1995. What I'm thinking is, in order to account for the crash of '87, the trend line starts down too early before Oct. 19, 1987, but that actually wasn't the case. The trend had been up since '82 until just a few weeks before the crash.
By the way, buying recent IPOs right after the crash of '87 were a terrific investment. ORCL and MSFT went public in '86.
