Either values exist in the things themselves, or they are imputed. There can be no inherent value to humanity if there is not a cosmic structure in which we have our place. There may be imputed value ("it means something to me"), but it is in defiance of the worldview otherwise adopted. That is why "The Myth of Sisyphus" is such a good expression of existential humanism, or why the chief task of Nietzsche's Ubermensch is to face the Eternal Return, which is an expression of the futility of all human action, and nevertheless be able to embrace it and affirm it. Existential humanism has a certain nobility, since it admits that without God we face a universe with no inherent values, but determines, nevertheless, to act as if human life mattered. All of the rest is happy talk failing to comprehend the logic of one's position......
