Egypt: Won't Bow to U.S. Pressure over Ibrahim
From Reuters at 9:38 AM

CAIRO -- Egypt said on Thursday it would not bow to U.S. pressure over its jailing of an Egyptian-American activist, whose conviction was criticized as politically motivated by rights groups.

The Washington Post reported on Thursday that the United States would oppose giving any new aid to Egypt in protest at the imprisonment of Saadeddin Ibrahim, convicted in July after a retrial on charges including defaming Egypt.

Rights groups said the verdict was an attempt to kill off Egypt's fledgling civil society. The government has denied their accusations and defended the independence of the judiciary.

"Egypt does not accept pressure and will not bow to pressure and everyone knows that," Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher told reporters when asked about the Washington Post report.

Maher said any attempt to apply pressure to the Egyptian government would have no effect. He said all other states should respect the Egyptian judicial system and its rulings "as we respect their justice systems."

Exactly Gerard, he is not proactive he is totally reactive. People who are intellectually limited have a hard time being proactive. His wanting to invade Iraq is not proactive either, it is the reaction to getting even for Daddy's failing to finish the job 12 years ago and his vengeance to get even. This at the cost of thousands of innocent Americans and Iraqi's, the action of a genuine dope
