One might find it creepy if one were a conspiracy theorist

Some very influential people in Britain thought Hitler and the Nazis were the way to go to. People who suggested resisting the Nazis were openly laughed at.

It's only just becoming apparent to the British population why King Edward abdicated the throne.

His wife had some problems for the British government

Wallis was apparently very friendly with the German ambassador von Ribbentrop (which could hardly have been very reassuring to the British cabinet, given the kind of state papers that Edward was entitled to see).

I expect some well socially placed people in the USA, observing the many "failings of the system" made some real daft decisions on who was the good guys and who the bad re Stalin and Communism. It's funny that the Left usually attributes the very wealthy far right as the conspiritors controlling the world economy.

I'm fairly sure Keynes was not a communist spy. He was the final defense line I believe. After WW1, the 20's and 30's saw Britain as a very sorry mixed up place. I'm surprised the literature has Britains bankers still so influential over the USA.

The emerging picture I getting is that despite all the problems, intrigues, politics, failures... The USA was well represented during the last 60 years of the 20th century.

The USA casualties in WW2 re Europe was probably reduced to the absolute minimum by various mechanisms. In fact Korea, Vietnam and other conflicts were probably handled better then I originally thought. Maybe by luck more then intention but who cares. Hindsight helps of course.

Having lived in the USA for nearly a decade I don't have many of the hang ups that some do towards Americans. Who knows...maybe with a little focus "pax Americana" can last for a thousand years -g-
