I think the entire Iran/Contra mess of arms for hostages, then arms sales to prohibited countries to raise illegal funds for a prohibited war, then leveraging some of those funds to grow profits by flying coke on some of those CIA charters into the states... was a lot WORSE. >>> Death and distruction followed that entire series of events like stink on four day old roadkill: hundreds of thousands killed in Central America, thousands gassed from American-sold aircraft in Iraq, hundreds of thousands more killed by goosing up the war between Iraq and Iran... then even more in Desert Storm, and a decade of sanctions... none of which would have been occured if we hadn't propped Saddam up to begin with." Whew. That is a lot of info. I am no expert on it, and my view of it is different than yours. When Ollie was on the stand being grilled I viewed him as a good guy, and I still like Ollie. That kind of rolled together with the Robert Bork then Clarence Thomas charactar assasination are part of the reason I view the demo party so negatively. I don't have enough information to change your opinion so I will say it is fair enough for you to think it is worse than Clinton allowing his donor to help the Chinese rocket program. My opinion is that you have a fair amount of conjecture in your charges, but maybe it is an actual accounting of the events. Since I do not view our government as cynically as you seem to it is hard to imagine that we would want all the bad things to happen. Since you know it was wrong, and you knew what should have been done instead I will assume that you think you are either smarter or more moralistic than our leaders at the time. I have my doubts.
