I just heard the stupidest economist forecast in months
it was CNBC at 8:30am today
some guy from PNC Partners, an economist (maybe not)
but he professed his optimistic view on the economy's growth
his main foundation was that corporate mgmt has been pre-occupied in recent weeks and months by governance issues, accounting issues, and legal issues
so they have taken their eye off the ball on managing their companies, and making new commitments to investing
he believes capex spending will rise considerably this autumn as a result

this guy must have been a fast-talking MBA type who never hit the books

I wonder if he makes over $200k per year
he didnt bother to check the capacity utilization in mfg, which is at 72-74%
nor check that Y2K buildout and replacement peaked in 2000
nor check that IT spending has been deadinwater for months
nor notice that IT software spending is now trending down
nor discern that final demand spending is trending down

wow, Jim
