Deutsche Telekom rethinks its foreign investments

The new CEO of Deutsche Telekom, Helmut Sihler, is preparing a change of course regarding the managerial policy. In an interview with the German newspaper "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung" he made clear that the executive committee considers a partial retreat from the company's foreign business. Sihler said that especially looking at VoiceStream, T-Mobile's US subsidiary, and the French and Spanish subsidiaries of T-Online. At the end of November the executive committee wants to communicate the results of the strategic considerations. Sihler is satisfied with the consolidation of the company. The economic measures and the reduction of debts will improve the earnings with billions, he said. He also affirmed that the debts of the company should be EUR 50 million at the end of 2003. Those debts are at present EUR 65 billion.
