6:46AM Avanex fails to garner support for Oplink merger (AVNX, OPLK) by Tomi Kilgore
Avanex (AVNX) said it did not receive sufficient votes from Oplink Communications (OPLK) to complete the merger of the companies. The maker of photonic processors said it failed to garner support of the merger from most of Oplink's Taiwan-based shareholders, who control collectively own more than 40 percent of Oplink's outstanding shares. Avanex noted that "every significant U.S.-based institutional stockholder" of Oplink supported the merger. Avanex closed Thursday down 24 cents at $2.05 and Oplink ended 14 cents lower at 80 cents.
