(SMIC), one of several of pure-play semiconductor foundries being built up in China, has said that it is ready to offer a 0.18-micron CMOS process technology suitable for logic circuits, which will be the first such offering in China. SMIC's internal R&D team has developed the process technology from technologies SMIC has licensed. With a small cell-sized embedded SRAM it is intended to be the start of a 0.18-micron family that will include EEPROM and mixed-signal, RF and SoC capabilities. SMIC has already implemented this 0.18 um logic technology into volume production, and has achieved competitive levels of defect density and process cycle time, the company said. With VeriSilicon's 0.18-micron design platform, SMIC is able to provide customers with design support in such areas as memory compilation for single- and dual-port SRAM, standard and I/O cell libraries. In addition, SMIC's in-house design support group offers a variety of digital and mixed signal cores. SMIC is also running a multi-wafer project service on the 0.18-micron CMOS to allows customers to test prototypes and advanced designs at reduced risk and cost. "We are very proud to be the first foundry in China to produce in volume the 0.18-micron logic technology. The qualification of SMIC's 0.18-micron technology, to JEDEC standards, is not only a great success and milestone for SMIC, but for the IC industry as a whole in China,” said I.C. Chen marketing and sales fellow at SMIC.
