Tony, I'm the one on Ed's ignore list. Didn't like me suggesting to stay away from AOL at 26, GLW at 8, ITWO at 6, MANU at 6, CIEN at 8 or anything that had anything to with stop losses and protection of principle. Hell, even diversification is a dirty word to him.

Ed certainly has a thing for the shorts. Just the vision of them losing money must bring him comfort in seeing his own account dwindle away. Too bad.....

Ed ..

>>>>> I have you thinking about that possibility

oh yes ... the potential loss from ANY position is always on my mind...
my old dad taught me in a strident manner to take as many precautions as I could to protect assets.....

as to ===== it may be $20-$50 higher on some stocks

I doubt that very much ...
don't know that it is a plausible scenario for any "normal priced" stock (say, below a hundred bucks) to rise THAT much before a short could be covered ....
it has always been my observation, in more than 40 years of being in the marketplace, that equities fall with MUCH more rapidity than they escalate ...
so, I will say that there is a more distinct possibility that a such a statement is immensely more applicable to
long positions
rather than
short positions
I suspect that is more an emotional statement on your part than a rational one.

On the marvelous side of me reading your posts ======
it seems to me that you have a firm plan...
as pertains to equity scale ins that you post here, it is one that is NOT a major percentage of your funds ..
that it is a well thought out application of YOUR ideas for YOUR financial future ...

that is admirable ....
and one from which everyone here can make a profit ....
