*OT* Actually, you raise a good point (rings)...but how determinental is it that the guy pencils in 45 homers and 120 rbis a year? He is a leader (seen it here). He's no Manny Ramirez. His fielding used to be average, but is now good/very good.

I just don't know if one can blame his lack of rings on him...at least Bonds has choked in post-season (so there is cause there). Put Rodiguez on the Yanks, he'd get a few rings before career over..

I have to admit...Jeter does those spectacular things at key moments that makes him an absolute stud in my book...the numbers are less important (as you say)..

The new A's (last 3 years) are such a cool team IMO....hard not to like them.

<<Jeter's play is alot better then his numbers show. >>

wtf does that mean? that he has produced more runs than his anemic OPS would indicate? (he hasn't). that his pathetic range factor doesn't cost his teams runs in the field? (it does).

i suppose you believe in clutch hitters too? (here's a hint; they statistically don't exist).

the beauty of baseball is that you're NOT better than your numbers; certain numbers (like OPS, range factor and win shares) perfectly capture your contribution. you may as well tell me that Erik Gustafson's a better investment manager than his returns show, or that Naveen Jain is a better corporate manager than Infospace stock price indicates, or that Jack Grubman is a better analyst than the his stock picks indicate.

Cheers

mm,

<Jeter's play is alot better then his numbers show.>

No doubt. How many shortstops could have/would have made a play similar to Jeter's in the playoffs last year when he threw out Jeremy Giambi at the plate?

It sure has been great watching the resurgence of great shortstops. Lots of good ones around these days.
