I have to tell you that I had a hard time swallowing that one. It's a good thing that I was never captured by the enemy when I was in the service.

Even when we have a religious roadmap, we still end up having to make our own moral judgments some of the time. Not lying under those circumstances is even dumber than not eating meat on Friday.

My 88 year old father was telling me recently that he remembers a priest from his youth saying from the pulpit that the old ladies should stay home on Sundays when the snow was more than a couple of inches deep. Other priests might say that they would burn in hell. My father mentioned that because he has been watching mass on TV the last few years but it is no longer available. I guess he's praying that it will return rather than dragging himself to mass. He has interpreted the old priest's opinion as old people not needing to go to mass any longer. He doesn't get any argument from me.
