for lack of ability to see that the war is on.

Sounds like as we set here chattering, the war is passing us by. We have talked a great deal about the difficulty of running this operation though Turkey, but we missed the point that it is much easier than we supposed, because we are on the ground in force there already, through the Kurdish connection.

It is really amazing that we get this kind of rundown out of the Asian Times, while the NYT and the WP spend their time blasting any start of an operation that is already happening. I don't think this article is wrong, so where are the reports like this in our papers? Could it possibly be that they are holding back because of National Security?

Think of the pressure this is putting on the upper levels of politicians, civil servants, and Generals in the Iraqi government. They must know this is happening. They know we can take out Saddam, and they want to survive with their families. But their hands are tied until we make a move on Saddam. I think a "quick collapse" is the best guess as to what will happen.

RE Asia Times. Nadine, don't know if you had the chance to read them but the Asia Times also has a five part series entitled Getting Saddam that folks might be interested in. One of the sections says that the UK has plans to call up reserves in Sept., hmmmmmmmmmmmm. Wonder if that can be confirmed?

Military Preparations:

In another move to free forces for an attack on Iraq, 3,000 members of Britain's main fighting force, 1 (UK) Armored Division, have been withdrawn from a tank exercise in Poland. Britain's Royal Air Force is practicing low-level precision bombing strike missions that they expect to undertake against Iraq. The ministry of defense is planning a mass mobilization of key reservists beginning in September, heightening expectation that the United States and Britain are stepping up preparations for an attack on Iraq.
