Here is some good reading from Ned Davis. I have uploaded the whole page from Barrons to my web directory if you want to see the nice graphic accompanying it that shows some of the important differences between now and in previous bear markets.

Ned (and Zeev) is calling now for a continuing rally for at least a month or two, then maybe a retest, and then maybe further rally after that. It could happen, but from my POV we need to see the ECRI WLI turn around. If you look at that WLI chart I posted, you will see that right after the 9/11 market low it was able to turn around and go steadily upwards. Some of this was due to the fact that the WLI includes the NYSE as one of its components, but it also went up because the economy really did strengthen. If the economy can't start strengthening here at least temporarily then this rally may not last as long as Ned is suggesting.
