I just posted this on the new economy thread, Applied is doing an indian outsource for an ERP upgrade, they are a first mover so there you go-

I really don't know how I feel about this. On the Dell call Mike said repeatedly that they are keeping mfg expertise in house and called those that outsource "higher cost providers". Of course Dell is much more of a mfg company than Applied- (Applied just wants to get the job done and not worry about every fraction of a cent against the cogs since their volume is too low to justify that level of tweaking). IT outsourcing isn't total mfg outsourcing- Dell was talking about using flextronics or sanmina but it is related. And putting all your corporate details in India? Not sure how smart that is.

Having said all this, here we have another example of the internet allowing for efficiences you couldn't get before, and thats good long term. The best indian consulting company investment (I think?) is cognizant, infosys another huge one. The problems I have with buying these is that 1)they have no IP and are really just the indian version of razorfish imo (and we know how that story turned out! lol) and 2) currency issues seem like a risk to me, that I don't quite understand.
