Hi, Ron - I have a pretty good library of resources on Pennsaid, and the microtubule system of delivery. Just heading out the door, but will post later.

Your comparison, using wood in a car's fuel system, very apt!

In fact, question is molecular weight: whether the transport system can accomodate the substance in question.

and here, check "membrane transport"

stolaf.edu

...What I found surpising about "microtubule transport" is that it occurs on the OUTSIDE of the microtubules.

My old links on various membrane penetration mechanisms no longer work. I will try to find some new links with animations: "a picture is worth 1,000 words".

DMSO itself (alone) is sold in a lotion form. It also comes in roll-on containers. There has been some speculation on why DMX chose the droplet form of application. Droplets seem inconvenient for a number of reasons:

1 - necessity of having the surface horizontal
2 - necessity of clean hands
3 - difficult to use in "travelling" situations
