I'm really not a fan of Dell. They seem to be winning the computer wars by default since everyone else has absolutely horrible execution. Costs will continue to come down of course...that's why Dell will need to grow through acquisitions and/or partnerships with new businesses. It's unreal that no one else on earth has been able to figure out how to build and ship a computer box efficiently...got to believe it will happen though.

BTW...do you think VTSS will survive this downturn ???
If they do, the stock will be a huge winner from here...

I just bought a laptop for $1159. I suspect average revenue per unit has a lot more downside.

I'm a little confused about that revenue per unit or ASP number myself. Dell commented on strong sales for their EMC line, revenues there are growing 65% qtr/qtr. This doesn't factor into these ASPs, does it? What about the Linux servers which they are ramping with Oracle. Thats the enterprise business. I suspect the ASP number will in fact decline but also become irrelevant as the product mix broadens...?

Of course, it is probably not too hard to sell a $2000 computer or the Brooklyn Bridge to that majority of American males who thought Bush won the debates.<g>

Or to anyone who believed anything Slick ever had to say! (sorry, I couldn't resist)
