Addi,

You are getting disillusioned because you believe in a buy-and-hold strategy. While we are not looking, the S&P has gone on a 20% rally. But like all bear-market rallies, the gains will evaporate. The trick is to get into the rally close enough to the bottom and to get out (and go short) as it tops out.

In other words, this market is a trader's delight. I see the point expressed in the article and do agree with that. But there are gains to be made, if you can shed your buy-and-hold mindset, even in this market. Or should I say, especially in this market?!

If you cannot trade well however, I still think it is best to stay out of this market. There could be some risky trading strategies, where, hard to believe, your losses can be greater than mere buy-and-hold. So, know yourself well and do what you are comfortable with.
