If "budget" Xeon servers are getting Sun staff to lose sleep, I wonder what they are thinking about Opteron! I've said for a long time now that the OEMs' main interest in Itanium is that it represents a new architecture that businesses may be willing to spend more money for. If it delivers on performance and RAS, then Intel (and thereby the OEM) should be able to charge more. My simple solution for Sun is to ditch the "Itanic" bias, and start endorsing Itanium.
