In word-processing programs, usually what has happened is you have accidentally hit the "insert" key, and hitting it again toggle it back. But that does not work as I type this message.

Don...In Word...open a Word doc...on the top of a Word doc click on Tools...then Options...click the Edit tab....make sure that Overtype Mode is not checked.
