Even if there is no recovery in the works, the cycle of buying ahead of a hoped-for recovery has to work itself out. This goes back to my notion that the bulls now accept that the market was not forecasting a recovery but now it will.

I actually thought that many more companies would have used the certification deadline to clean out the books, at least write-off some goodwill, but that did not really happen. I do not know how to time it, but companies have to rationalize their huge debt in the coming years 'cause they can not live with it in a new era of clean balance sheets.

I also would have expected more pressure on the abusers of stock options, but as soon as we rally, the pressure comes off these offenders. As we all know, and as history amply shows us, there is little pressure from regulators and shareholders when the market is rising.

As for the trade deficit and the budget deficit, well Haim, nobody gives a damn. -ng
