Your assumption that I was not also thinking of Central and South America is unwarranted. I was.

I am well aware that the US has backed terrible people. I think we got it right in, say, Nicaragua, when we backed Violeta Chamorro and in the Philippines when we backed Corazon Aquino.

We do learn from our mistakes, I believe. If the only action we could ever take was perfect, then we could never act. The lesser of evils is sometimes the only choice.

BTW, "fatuous" and "self-righteous" are below the belt, and I believe not allowed on this board. "Pot kettle black" also comes to mind.;^)
