Teachers have become preoccupied with job security ...

Their two biggest priorities are maintaining tenure and preserving retirement benefits. There is not much time left for lofty political principles.

I do not blame this on the teachers themselves. The profession is underpaid and overworked, as in increasingly large classes and inclusion of hard to handle "Sped" students. Teachers have been forced to become surrogate parents and babysitters instead of professional educators, pawns in the "great experiment" to make everyone in our society feel good about themselves, neglectful parents and lazy students included.

It happened to the Republican party too. It happens to all organizations- the people who are all fired up always grab key positions- and people who are all fired up are rarely mainstream. So you get polarization! Wow! What an enormous surprise!!! (NOT :-)
