Hubris is the poison of empires. The US appears to pushing close to proving that again.

The US is probably capable of prosecuting the war on its own. The wisdom of doing so, particularly if that means heavy losses, is debatable.

Remember Vietnam? That's effectively (with some window dressing) what we did there. Do you want the nation torn apart with demonstrations and riots again?

The problem in Vietnam and this case is basically distance. It helps enormously to have bases near the war area for support. We have effectively declared the Americas as ours because they are close enough that the US can provide a staging area or a nearby nation can always be "convinced" to provide one. Halfway around the world is a different matter.
