Welcome back, OMD. We were wondering if you had disappeared from this thread. Your humor is much appreciated. (Although not always by all people all the time. :-) )

I wonder what a thread summary here would look like. Could be, ah, interesting on the right days. :-)

I'm not sure, but I thought Kuwait had bowed out as a possible staging area. I'll see what I can find out.

One disadvantage is Kuwait is small. That means the Iraqis know where the ground forces will be coming from and can set up good defenses. You can't do a "Hail Mary" attack such as was used in the Gulf War.

And the same applies to Iraq's coastline. It's small, which makes it easy to defend.

On a smaller scale this was done in Afghanistan.
That was Afghanistan. It will take a lot more to take out Iraq. I don't know where they stand now, but at the beginning of the Gulf War, Iraq had the 4th largest army in the world. (Or was that "4th largest armored force"?)
