From the US Airways Web site FAQs:

Dividend Miles
What will happen to my Dividend Miles?
Our Dividend Miles program will continue without interruption. We will continue to honor miles previously earned in our Dividend Miles program, and participants will continue to accrue miles for travel during the reorganization and beyond.

When an airline reorganizes, their biggest challenge is customer retention through the process. The frequent flyer miles are treated as a marketing expense, and most airlines that want to continue and emerge from Chapter 11 will decide at the outset to continue that expense as a way of reassuring customers that it is business as usual.

Technically speaking, you are correct that the holders of those miles could be looked at as unsecured creditors and have their miles flushed out. But from a marketing perspective that would be suicide. The only airlines that do that are the ones who cease operations altogether.

<<Huh? Seems like the holders of miles would be just another unsecured creditor....and you know what happens to unsecured creditors.....>>

Some plans let you convert the miles to hotel rooms. You may lose some value but at least save what's left.
