That sounds like quite a victory for Nasser and Hussein. Perhaps we can learn a lesson from that. PR can go a long way...The perception that the US is acting as an Israeli puppet has to be changed.

A slight contradiction here? remember that Nasser had no difficulty establishing the perception that the US was acting as an Israeli puppet at a time the US was behaving with strict neutrality. This would definitely imply that even a "significant shift" of US policy is insufficient to ensure a change in Arab perceptions. After all, grievances against the US are so convenient as explanations for why the local rulers are repressive and the economy is a basket case.

Perhaps we should work on providing the Arab world with a free press instead?
