US citizens still consider it a birth right to drive big gas guzzlers. We are willing to defend that right with the lives of our offspring. I have seen glimmers of hope ~ folks driving hybrids that I've spotted maneuvering between SUVs.

Maybe sometime we will realize the price is to high and that we have considerable power available to influence the suppliers of the product we love to waste. Our power to influence is through a very visible conservation effort.

We have the power to influence consumers, too. We can tax the living shit out of energy wasting devices and put the money into research aimed at development of alternative sources. We haven't done this yet, because too little attention has been paid to the long term ramifications of dependence on ME oil. We are paying the price for that oversight now.
