I used to hang out with some people in the SDS. They really hated the establishment. One of my best friends used to end every communication with "don't forget to smash the state."

Oh, I don't really find that bizarre at all. I hung out with SDS types a great deal in the 60s. Heard exactly the same comments. And some of those who made them are corporate yada yadas now. Not strange at all.

I promise you, though, if you had been in Chicago in 68 at the Democratic convention and seen some of your friends beaten, indiscriminately, for peacefully protesting, by the Chicago police, you might well have said some of the same things. In that context.
