OK. I think the fundamentalists are active in some regions. But in suburbia, where I live, they have no presence or impact at all. I think in small towns it may be different. Where I grew up there were a few Bible thumpers who were always trying to control what the local small town school allowed us to read and what the library could stock. Fortunately the librarian had a spine, and the school board also was never taken over by these nuts.

I was the sort of kid who looked at anything anyone tried to ban as a recommendation that I should find a copy and read it. <g>

Far right folks have made an all out try at taking over school boards, and they are trying to take over other grass roots organizations- counting on the apathy of the moderate middle.

And BTW "christian" does not necessarily mean "far right"....
