I would use it to shoot anyone who tried to hurt me or my family members....that's for sure. But I have been a target shooter with rifles, pistols and revolvers since I was 14.

Your understanding is wrong. There are leagues for handgun target shooting just like bowling leagues. I've shot 10s of thousands of rounds through a handgun and never a one into a person.
