Just to illustrate how old this story is, I was 8 years old when I heard someone say it about the development of the Avro Arrow. You never forget a good joke.

Stop the presses. Two money making ideas. 1. tear anywhere toilet paper. Simply make the roll with continuous lines of holes, so it can be torn off anywhere. Would save paper too. 2. Contributory co-op internet newspaper. At a website, neighbourhood busybodies and people with police scanners would be employed reporting what went on in their neighbourhood, or at the office. Weather, new company policies and announcements, gossip, kittens in trees, births and deaths etc...
