Most Internet companies -- including csco don't have good profit outlooks in coming years -- and no I am definitely not kidding. Internet traffic and use can grow without csco or similar companies being a good investment. The growth in the use of the Internet has never been an issue -- the question is who (if anyone) can make money from it. Bandwidth in particular is an easily expanded commodity -- overbuilding at premium prices just about destroyed the telcos. The bursting of the bubble was primarily due to recognition of the economics of Internet-related businesses - they are just not going to make that much money so Internet-relted stocks (once in short supply and now in a glut phase), are not worth much. Why buy csco? It is probably a better short than a buy. I don't have a current position in csco -- but it is almost certainly yesterday's little darling and a pretty ho-hum company in the future.
