Dunkin' Donuts Has Home Depot Deal

Dunkin' Donuts to Open Stores Inside Home Depot
ATLANTA (AP) -- Three Home Depot stores soon will have a full-serve Dunkin' Donuts within their doors, part of a test program the companies announced Tuesday.

The partnership between the nation's largest home improvement retailer and the leading coffee and baked good chain should cut down on travel time for customers, said John Simley, a spokesman for Atlanta-based Home Depot.

"We did some survey research and found that a lot of professional builders and contractors visit our stores, particularly in the early hours, to collect materials," Simley said. "On their way to the work site, they stop off at a Dunkin' Donuts for coffee, bagels and doughnuts for their crews, so this just makes it a little more convenient for them."

The first Home Depot-Dunkin' Donuts store will open in Manchester, Conn., with other stores in South Attleboro, Mass., and South Plainfield, N.J., opening by the end of the year, Simley said.

"We expect it to be very successful, and that will determine if and how we will expand it," he said.

Earlier Tuesday, Home Depot reported a 28 percent increase in second-quarter profits, earning $1.18 billion, or 50 cents per share, in the three months ending Aug. 4. In the same quarter last year, Home Depot earned $924 million, or 39 cents a share.
