Interesting woods lore!

Believe it or not: I was once surprised by a black bear while camping at Norman Creek in B.C. While photographing some wild flowers I was about a couple of hundred yards from where I had parked my Jeep Cherokee. The bear approached slowly. Taken by surprise, I dropped my Nikon F3 camera. The bear stopped. I began to climb a tree beside me. The bear also started to climb a tree about 7 feet away. While I was up about 10 feet, I stopped. The bear climbed to about the same height and stopped. And we stared at each other. I climbed another 5 feet or so. The bear did likewise and we stared at each other again. Ditto at another 5 feet up. Then I started to holler and yell as loudly as I could. No effect on bear! But my buddies heard me and they came running making a lot of noise as hey approached. The bear was scared. It got down and ran away. I was also lucky in that my Nikon was not damaged.
