Far from it. The U.S. has caused just as much death, destruction, pain, and suffering as some the most brutal regimes in history. Millions of people have suffered and died throughout the world (especially in Latin America) so we can live our elevated lifestyles in the U.S. The saddest thing is that most of the dittoheads out there have no idea about these facts. Yes, there were times where the U.S. did what it had to do for it's survival. Certainly, any country must do what it needs to do to survive. But, there are many examples where the U.S. was motivated more by greed and economic factors than any natural survival instinct.

William Blum's "Killing Hope" is an excellent resource for anyone interested in learning about U.S. economic imperialism around the world over the last 50 years.
