The remarkably acrimonious SLAPP lawsuit of Varian Medical Systems, Varian Semiconductor Equipment Associates, and two of their executives, Susan B. Felch of Los Altos Hills, CA and George Zdasiuk of Portola Valley, CA has gotten even nastier. An ongoing FBI investigation has identified, contacted and gotten expressions of “remorse” from two Internet terrorists who have used Yahoo! e-mail and/or message board postings to harass, defame, and threaten innocent law-abiding families and their children.
A Special Agent of the FBI working out of their San Jose, CA office has assured the victims of these criminal acts that they are under no immediate danger while the two perpetrators remain at large. At least one of the terrorists whose name is being withheld pending further investigation is known to have used Agilent Technologies Inc., equipment for his misdeeds. Agilent’s Julie Fouquet is the wife of plaintiff Zdasiuk and was a key witness in support of his multi-million dollar personal lawsuit at his company’s sponsored SLAPP trial. Somewhat disturbingly no spokesperson for Yahoo, Agilent or Varian and its plaintiffs has yet publicly denounced the acts of terrorism in general and the death threats in particular. The case is now in the hands of an Assistant United States attorney who has also assured the victims of these heinous acts that their safety is in the hands of our FBI.

Optimizes Beam Set-Up Time for Greater Throughput

GLOUCESTER, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 10, 2002--Varian Semiconductor Equipment Associates, Inc. (Nasdaq: VSEA - News), the leading supplier of ion implantation systems, today announced that it has been issued U.S. Patent Number 6,403,972 for "Methods and Apparatus for Alignment of Ion Beam Systems Using Beam Current Sensors."
This new technology uses beam current sensors throughout the beamline for alignment and pre-calibration of the beam optics. "Pre-calibrating the magnets in the beamline minimizes the beam optimization time during set-up resulting in significant increases in machine throughput," said Alan Sheng, Ph.D., Varian Semiconductor's vice president of engineering. "Our VIISta 810 and VIISta 810 HP customers enjoy these important cost of ownership benefits."

The beam current sensors are used in the Company's single wafer VIISta 810 and VIISta 810 HP medium current ion implanters. This unique technology is part of the VIISta platform single wafer advantage that includes unprecedented precision in dopant placement at "atomic level precision" through total incident angle control and dose control. In addition, the VIISta platform also offers individual wafer statistical process control, enhanced productivity, and increased process flexibility for advanced applications including high tilt halo implants, and a substantial reduction in contamination to enhance device yields.
