I would hope that I have have self- discipline enough to restrict what I say freely, especially in the heat of the moment, when people often say things they don't mean and later regret. In my view, my freedom is not a matter of letting all impulses run wild, but of making choices based upon reason, and instilling habits of self- control, responsibility, and discretion so that not every instance is a test of will. I would say that that is the classic conservative view, and regret the ascension of the hippie view that you have to act impulsively to be free, and honor your momentary feelings to be sincere. That conservatives should defend bad behavior with such hippie nonsense makes me sad.......
